Tom Summers
'Yori' Vase
This collection of stoneware vessels by Tom Summers is a continuation of his fascination with the built environment, warping his experience of place to reflect the vibrant inner world that exists in each of us. His work is also as much a colour exploration as it is an exploration of form, trying to create a harmonious balance of colour, proportion and scale to create a specific mood.
Each piece is one of a kind, being built using slabs of stoneware clay that have been coloured by pigments wedged into the clay before working with it.
Though unglazed, these pieces are treated with a liquid quartz solution after firing that repels water and allows for them to be both functional and decorative sculptural objects.Art
